Whether you’re a family member, someone with lived experience, or a professional in the field, there are experiences close to your heart that make you an advocate for better mental health care.
Your experience and your words matter a great deal. Other families may be following the same path you have already walked.
This month – September 2018 – we ask you to please share your story in order to illuminate the path that, for far too many, is dark and fraught with wrong turns.
We will be participating in advocacy and awareness-raising efforts during the month of September in order to highlight hopeful messages around National Recovery Month and World Suicide Prevention Day. Please join us in these efforts by sharing your story so we might share it with others.
Other ways to engage
Join our World Suicide Prevention Day event and together, with people all around the world, learn how to better recognize the warning signs for suicide.
On September 10th, we will be sharing tips and advice from the Take5ToSaveLives campaign.
Together, let’s make some noise about this important issue!
About the campaigns
Each September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders, and celebrate individuals living in recovery.
Now in its 29th year, the 2018 Recovery Month theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community,” explores how integrated care, a strong community, sense of purpose, and leadership contributes to effective treatments that sustain the recovery of persons with mental and substance use disorders.
September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day, a day for people to take action to raise awareness about the prevention of suicide. Since 2003, the National Council for Suicide Prevention has been promoting the Take 5 To Save Lives campaign, which asks us to take 5 steps to get involved and join a movement to save lives.
The observance of these events works to highlight inspiring stories that help thousands of people from all walks of life find the path to hope, health, and wellness.
We hope you do not stay silent, but that you join us by sharing your own important and meaningful story!
